FAQ
When is the run?
2009 saw the run take place on Sunday 10th May. The 2010 City Stampede will be taking place in May on a date still to be confirmed. Starting at 11am with registration from 10am.
Where is it?
The stampede will be happening in Bath, UK. Registration is in a marquee by the bandstand in Royal Victoria Park on Royal Avenue. The route takes in the historical Royal Crescent, The Circus and Royal Victoria Park.
How do I get there?
We would advise taking public transport to the event. Trains run regularly to Bath Spa station which is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the start. Alternatively buses run to various places in Bath from nearby towns and Bristol. If you are coming by car please use the Charlotte Street car park which is less than 5 minutes from the start of the run. All car parking signs in Bath lead to the Charlotte Street car park so please follow these once you enter the city. Bath is approximately a 2 hour drive from London on the M4 and A4.
How long is the route?
Each lap is a mile long. You can choose between 2 miles, 5 miles or for a real challenge 10 miles.
How long will it take?
This depends on how fast you are and how many miles you choose to run. We estimate that for 2 miles you should allow between 20 minutes and 1 hour; for 5 miles, between 45 minutes and 2 hours; and for 10 miles between 90 minutes and 3 hours.
Is there an entry fee and do I need to raise money?
Yes! This is a sponsored event. Your entry fee (£28) only covers the cost of the costume and organising the run. We don’t ask for a minimum sponsorship level but we do hope that everyone aims to raise approximately £200 or more. Please ask family and friends to sponsor you generously to make a real difference.
What will the money I raise be used for?
All money raised in this event will be used on WSPA’s Farm Animal Welfare work. For more information on this area of work please take a look at the farming pages on WSPA’s website.
What animal costumes do you have?
This aim of this event is to raise awareness of WSPA’s Farm Animal Welfare work therefore you will have a choice of a cow, pig, lamb or donkey! Costumes will be available to collect on the morning of the run at the registration point.
What size are the costumes?
All costumes are one size and will fit most people. If you receive your costume and it is too small and you are unable to amend it please contact us.
Can I personalize my costume?
Yes! You are more than welcome to wear fancy dress over your animal costume. You may even find that people will sponsor you more money. Why not try going as a Caveman Cow, a Pirate Pig, a Leprechaun Lamb or a Darth Vader Donkey!
Can I keep my costume?
Yes. The costume is yours to keep which means you will always have something to wear for fancy dress parties.
How old do I have to be to take part?
The minimum age for participation is 14. For safety reasons anyone who is aged 14, 15 or 16 must be accompanied by an adult. There is no upper age limit so as long as you are fit and healthy enough to walk a minimum of 2 miles it would be great to have you there.
Can I invite family and friends along to watch?
Absolutely! The more people there to cheer you on the better.
What happens at the end?
Everyone who finishes the run will receive a medal plus food and drink. There will be a barn dance in the park next to the Marquee and we invite all participants and their family and friends to dance away the rest of the afternoon or just sit and relax in the park.
Do you need any volunteers for the day?
Yes. For the event to be a success we need plenty of help on the day from volunteers and marshals. If you or anyone you know would like to help out please fill in the online volunteers enquiry form or call Fundraising on 0800 316 9772
For all other enquiries please contact Fundraising on 0800 316 9772 or email fun@wspa.org.uk
