Borneo Jungle Explorer In November 2009, 18 animal lovers set off on the Borneo Jungle Explorer challenge run by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), the first charity group to trek through the rainforest of Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. The trek was to prove the most challenging, the most thrilling and the most rewarding experience for all who took part.
Climbing mountains as high as Ben Nevis in the heat and humidity of the rainforest, along narrow paths slippery from the latest downpour, wading across streams, inching across bamboo pole bridges – this trek is not for the faint-hearted. If you have a keen sense of adventure and determination, if you embrace new experiences, if you like to challenge yourself and if you want to do something amazing to help the orangutans of Borneo – then our 2010 trek is for you. Your fundraising and physical efforts will be rewarded with the rare opportunity to visit the WSPA-funded Nyaru Menteng sanctuary in Borneo, where around 650 orphaned and injured orangutans are cared for and helped along their journey towards rehabilitation in the wild. Our 2009 trekkers have raised over £65,000 to help care for the orangutans at Nyaru Menteng sanctuary. Please help us raise our target funds for the sanctuary by making a donation straight to WSPA or via the fundraising pages of individual trekkers, featured in Meet the Trekkers. If you’ve got any doubts, just read our Trek diary and play the video to see what an amazing, rewarding experience you could be signing up to.
